They charge too much for art! Can't afford....?
This concept was first introduced to me years ago when I first started selling artwork and also occasionally having the spare funds to buy artwork.
At one point I had lowered prices when people could not afford to buy my work, etc. As a few friends have told me and I've come to realize myself, there should be absolutely no complaint over pricing of artwork.
Points to clear up:
- I very well understand when artwork has seemingly no effort put in but only sells well do to artist fame
- I also understand when branding raises the price of things like custom species/adopts more than "they should sell for"
- And I understand when people selli
UFO encounter - On the patio of my house, I run up to where my jacuzzi is (about 5' above and 40' away from my backyard patio). I was with my mom and her brother, and while I'm standing up there looking at the beautiful stars, I see 3 really bright ones in a triangle.
They start turning, very slowly.
I'm like flipping a tit here and think I'm just seeing shit, and I yell for uncle and mom to come look and validate this. This triangle was huge too, like half the Big Dipper sized. And only uncle comes up by me and CONFIRMS THE FUCKING GEOMETRIC NONSENSE IN THE SKY while my damn mom stands on the patio calling us nuts and being too lazy to see

Simple art tricks, everyone can do
This is mostly a collection of things I´ve picked up somewhere (some quite recently) - not saying that I sticked to all of them, as I should… I´m going to add to this list (as I certainly forgot to add things I know and am going to learn new stuff), so if you´ve got more easy, useful tricks just comment and I´ll add them. Feel absolutely free to share this journal, so everyone can benefit from it.
Many of you will know most of these tricks, I just collected them, for those, who don´t and as a reminder to myself.
About where I picked these things up: They really come from various sources, most I´ve come ac

How to Improve your Art and Commissions
With every stroke we make with a brush, pencil, or any other medium we use, we are improving. Sometimes, it might feel like you are not improving at all and sometimes your art looks EPIC all of a sudden. I really hope this little guide can help you with your improvement and also give you some good tips in regards to creating commissioned pieces.
Observe Your Idols
We all have that one person, or those 50 people on DA who make us feel like our art is mediocre. You have to remember that those artists were once in your position, admiring other incredible artists. Have a couple artists you really really like and try to learn from them. Now I don

YOUR ART HAS VALUE! (and how to price it)
Hello everybody!
I get asked frequently ‘how do you price your art?’ “How do I evaluate how much I should charge for commissions?” etc. Recently, I’ve read a few disappointing posts on how some people devalue either themselves or others’ art purely because it is posted online either as digital or traditional. We often see people with very low prices being taken advantage of by commissioners who want to obtain amazing art for pennies on the dollar without notifying the artist that maybe their prices are too low. On the flip side, we also see people who complain that art is ‘too expensive’ w

$5 is hardly anything for a commission, heres why
Edit: Okay, wow--If I knew this journal would get the attention that it's getting I would have tried to make it sound a bit more professional and a bit less ranty im almost a little embarrassed
I'm also really glad that so many of you could share your input and experiences. It's really important that we understand this--especially on a site with so many young, impressionable artists. It's easy for us to think that our time is only worth the end product. When i first joined this site (i was 13), the first type of commission that I took was a full picture for only 5 points. Granted--it didn't look the best. i was only 13 after all, but at the

Helpful Habits for Commissioners
A lot of people have been asking me to write up something on the topic of taking and pricing commissions like I did with conventions, so here you go!
So what is a commission? If you didn't already know, a commission in way I will be discussing is when a person pay for an artist to draw them something. Neato, right? Money for art, couldn't be better.
Well there are a few catches to this art thing professionally and non-professionally; especially on an amateur level. First off, you wont get paid nearly what you should be getting paid...so if your motivation is money... you should pick a different field of interest. Second, you need to build y
